Riviera Maya

Mexico

Riviera Maya is a tourist destination located on Mexico’s Caribbean coastline that begins south of Puerto Morelos and ends in Tulum.  The second largest barrier reef in the world runs parallel to the shore of this fascinating destination. It is also home to the largest underground river system in the world.

Fun Facts

· In the 2005 horror movie The Cave, divers become trapped with man-eating creatures in an underwater cave system in Romania.  Many of the cave scenes, however were shot in the Riviera Maya.

· People tend to think of Playa del Carmen as “Cancun South,” when in reality Playa has a much more “small-town feel” and genuine Mexican ambiance. In fact, buildings here are restricted to three stories to retain the charming village feel.

· Ancient Mayans in the area cultivated chewing gum as far back as 4,000 years ago.

Exclusive Experiences

· Host a dinner in the Mayan underworld, 80 feet (25 meters) underground in a cavernous system millions of years old.

· Experience the ultimate in hydrotherapy and luxury at one of the biggest spa in the Riviera Maya.

· Visit the archeological site of Coba – the tallest pyramid in the area and the only one you can still climb up.  Its name is Nohoch Mul, which in Mayan means “Great Mountain.”
