· It wasn’t until the early 1900’s that Puerto Vallarta got its name, thanks to the state governor, Ignacio Vallarta; before it was known as Las Peñas.

· The Bay of Banderas, which surrounds Puerto Vallarta, measures 26 miles (42 km) from one end to the other and is one of the deepest bays in the world, up to 2,950 feet (900 meters) deep!
